Sri Lanka bat, Clarke ruled out
Toss Sri Lanka chose to bat v Australia
Shane Watson was again named Australia’s captain after Michael Clarke was ruled out due to injury but it was Sri Lanka’s leader Mahela Jayawardene who won the toss at the MCG. He decided to set Australia a target in the last Commonwealth Bank Series game before the finals, a match that Sri Lanka must win or tie if they are to qualify ahead of India for the deciders.
Sri Lanka made one change, with Farveez Maharoof ruled out as expected due to a problem with his lower back. The offspinner Sachithra Senanayake was brought in for his third match of the tournament .
Australia will be without Clarke for the second successive match and Brett Lee was also left out to accommodate the returning fast bowler James Pattinson. The match was set to start in sunny conditions in Melbourne.
